Interested in the future of West St. Catharines? This Wednesday, the City of St. Catharines will be holding a public meeting on the revitalization of the business section known as Western Hill. A few small blocks of the city, Western Hills commercial district has seriously devolved over the last few decades. With the exception of a few low-cost restaurants, most shops in that area open and close in the same year. The city would like to do something about it, and they want your ideas!
From the press release;
On Wednesday December 3, 2008, the City of St. Catharines is hosting a Visioning Workshop to discuss your thoughts, ideas and vision for the future of Western Hill. You are invited to participate in this important project.The City will be assisted by a consulting team led by Sorensen Gravely Lowes Planning Associates, in association with Joseph Bogdan Associates Inc. and Dillon Consulting. This session will take place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Meridian Room at the Seymour-Hannah Sports & Entertainment Centre at 240 St. Paul Street West.
The purpose of the Western Hill Revitalization Study is to provide guidance for the future redevelopment within the area. Your input is important. This workshop will allow residents to provide input and discuss ideas with other residents and the consulting team. Participants will work in small groups to discuss the future of the neighbourhood.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Doug Stiles at the City of St. Catharines Planning Services Department, (905)-688-5601 ext. 1724.

We have the same challenges for business in Hespeler On where I now live.
As a Hill Boy I saw many businesses when I grew up in the "hill"
Car dealers, bars, gyms, etc....
I dont have all the answers, but attracting any viable business is a tough chalenge in this economy and also against all the big box stores.....
Keep me posted ...... I can offer my 2 cents here and there......
