Thorold: Canada's most patriotic city?

canadaflags.jpg

You may not have realized it, but we have a record-holder in our midst! For two years running Thorold has held the designation of Canada's most patriotic city. The title is awarded to the town flying the most flags per capita on Canada Day. This past year Thorold won it's second consecutive Most Patriotic title with 6, 214 flags. With an estimated population of around 18,000 that's one flag for every three residents.

The title was not without controversy though. The community of Wellington, located just south of Belleville, had a whopping 1.45 flags per person on display. How were they able to accomplish such an amazing feat? Their community is only 1,700 people strong. Technically that makes them the winner, of a per capita contest -- doesn't it?

Not so! It turns out Wellington aren't the only ones looking at technicalities. As the title is for more patriotic city, Wellington's population doesn't qualify them. Who knew such a title could cause such a stir?
