The Flying Saucer Drive-In, circa 1973

oldsaucer.jpg

Does anybody remember the old saucer? This one was before my time, when the Saucer was still just a drive-in restaurant that offered carside service only.

The Saucer still offers carside (or so people tell me -- I've yet to try this myself) but has long since had the original building replaced by a full service restaurant. Don't worry though, it still has it's kitsch value -- it's just in the shape of a bigger saucer.

99 cent breakfasts and late night munchies have made the Saucer a favorite hang out for locals and tourists alike. If you haven't been out there since it looked like this, maybe it's time you gave it a try.

From the photographer;

I took this slide out of the car window back around 1973. It was in Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. Later converted to the Flying Saucer Restaurant (still there when I was there in 2005), but it doesn't look anything like this anymore.
