St. Catharines will see the 2010 Olypmic Torch

Great news for those with a case of olypmic fever! St. Catharines has been selected as a Celebration Community for the 2010 Vancouver Games Torch Relay. What does this mean? On December 20th, 2009, the torch will make a snowy stop mid-day in downtown St. Catharines.

“I am thrilled St. Catharines will have a role to play in celebrating the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games,” said Mayor Brian McMullan. “The torch relay is a way to build excitement across Canada for the games and I have no doubt when the torch arrives in St. Catharines it will be met with great enthusiasm.”

This isn't the first time the torch has passed through our fine community - the flame visited our downtown steps in December of 1988 in anticipation of the Calgary Winter Games. Those interested in becoming a part of history and bearing the torch can apply on iCoke.ca or by visiting rbc.com/carrythetorch.
