How should our local politicians act?

Watson City Hall.JPG

It's a refreshing question posed by our City Council, and one they're attempting to tackle right now. Behaviour, both in and out of the council room, will often play an important role in the effectiveness of our local government. Everything from substance abuse to bribery and "gift taking" can lead to decisions that aren't in the best interest of our citizenry. The city is attempting to roll out a Code of Conduct for Elected and Appointed Officials, and they want to make sure it has the approval of the people.

The final draft is available to the public in PDF format on the city's official site. After checking it out, please forward any comments or concerns to ktodd@stcatharines.ca. A final report will be presented to the council in May 2009, so you'll want to get your opinion in as soon as possible to make sure you're heard.

Can you smell that? It smells like democracy. Government in action, people! Love every second of it!
