Echoes of Niagara's Past at Fort George this weekend

It may not be the first thing one thinks of when talking about Niagara, but we're a region with a long and storied military tradition. Niagara-on-the-Lake's Fort George provided a first line of defense against the invading Americans during the War of 1812. Later it served as a military training facility during the first and second world wars, only to be abandoned by the military in 1965.

And while a tour of Fort George on any given day of the week is one of the true highlights on Niagara's tourism offerings, this weekend the Friends of Fort George will be putting on something extra special. Echoes of Niagara's Past will bring historical re-enactors to the Fort representing different generations of soldiers. Experience the sights and sounds of Fort George's storied past beyond it's prominent role in the War of 1812.
