Canal Days this weekend in Port Colborne

Despite all of the fun things that happen in our neck of the woods, it seems like every city in Niagara has one big festival that they're associated with. St. Catharines has Grape & Wine. Fort Erie has the Friendship Festival. And Port Colborne? In Port Colborne it's all about celebrating their maritime heritage. This weekend marks the start of Port Colborne's biggest annual event, Canal Days.

With events kicking off this Friday, Canal Days recognizes the city's lengthy past as the entranceway to the Welland Canal, a key player in the long history of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Given that 2009 marks the 50th anniversary, expect some extra special attention from the seafaring community this year.

In addition to tall ships, small ships, and ships of all sizes visiting the area, expect a number of events to dot the landscape. Classic car and kite shows, live music, and a fun run make up just a small portion of what will be on display.

For more details, visit the official Canal Days event page on the City of Port Colborne's website.
